THINK DEEPLY. TRAIN DAILY.

College recruiting is a process you can own.

Recruiting is more than waiting to be discovered. Athletes can prepare, learn how programs evaluate fit, communicate clearly, and keep track of the next action.

Lubega Legacy helps high school athletes and families connect recruiting education with player development, academics, identity, and the life they want to build beyond a roster spot.

START WITH FIT

What makes an athlete recruitable?

Coaches evaluate performance, but they also need to understand an athlete’s level, trajectory, academic situation, position, character, and fit for a program. A highlight can start a conversation. Consistent play, reliable information, communication, and follow-through help move it forward.

Recruitable does not mean the same thing at every school. An athlete can ask: Where would I contribute? What does this program need? Would the academic and team environment help me grow? The goal is a thoughtful list of possibilities, not a single dream school with no plan behind it.

Make it a rep: Choose three programs at different levels. Record the roster, academic options, location, coach contacts, and one specific reason each could fit.
THE WORK

Build a recruiting system

01 / Develop the player

Ask coaches for honest feedback. Set training goals, collect useful game film, and understand which skills and decisions matter at your position.

02 / Keep the academics visible

Know your transcript, course plan, and the admissions expectations at the schools you are exploring. Check eligibility steps early.

03 / Research the program

Study rosters, coaching staff, conference, location, majors, and team culture. Fit includes the school you attend every day.

04 / Communicate clearly

Introduce yourself with your graduation year, sport and position, school, relevant film or schedule, and a genuine reason you are interested.

05 / Track the conversation

Keep a simple record of contacts, replies, events, visits, questions, and next actions. Follow up with purpose rather than sending the same message everywhere.

06 / Make a decision for the whole person

Ask about development, academics, support, cost, playing opportunity, and what happens if the athletic path changes.

BASEBALL RECRUITING

Help a coach see the player behind the clip.

For baseball players, a profile can bring together position, graduation year, school, contact details, current schedule, relevant performance information, and a short film sample that shows actual game actions. Use accurate, current information. Ask a coach or trusted evaluator which clips best show the decisions and skills a program needs to see.

Scouting is an evaluation of present ability and future projection. A single metric or showcase does not tell the whole story. Coaches may care about tools, performance against competition, position fit, consistency, work habits, and how a player responds to instruction. Learn what feedback means, then return to the daily reps.

Social media can make it easier for coaches to find film and understand your story. Keep public information current and professional, but build real communication and relationships away from the feed, too.

CHECK THE CURRENT RULE

Calendars and eligibility change.

The NCAA’s recruiting resources explain how contact and evaluation rules work and link to current sport and division calendars. Before planning a visit or relying on a post about a contact date, check the live calendar for your sport, division, and recruiting year. The NCAA Eligibility Center and its registration guidance explain academic and athletics eligibility steps and account types.

Those official sources answer rule questions more reliably than old screenshots. Your school counselor, coach, and the college’s compliance staff can help with your specific circumstances.

Common questions

Should I wait for coaches to reach out?
No. Prepare a useful profile, identify schools that fit, learn the current rules, and communicate when appropriate.

What should I ask a program?
Ask how it develops players, what the roster needs, what academic support is available, and what the coach expects of athletes in and out of season.

Does the transfer portal change my approach?
Roster decisions can shift. Keep your school list broad, ask about current needs, and focus on controllable development and communication.
